Effective Date: January 2026
This policy explains what cookies and similar technologies are, which ones Groupverse uses, why we use them, and how you can control them. We've kept our approach to this deliberately minimal — Groupverse doesn't rely on cookies for core functionality like browsing listings or joining a group — but this page covers the specifics for anyone who wants the full picture.
Cookies are small text files that a website can place on your device to remember information between visits, such as preferences or session state. Related technologies include localStorage and sessionStorage, which are browser-based storage mechanisms that work similarly to cookies in some respects but are not transmitted to a server automatically and are typically used for functionality that only needs to work within your own browser.
Groupverse uses Google Analytics to understand site traffic (pages viewed, general location, device type). We also store a local cooldown timestamp in your browser's localStorage to prevent spam submissions — this data stays on your device and is never sent to us.
Google Analytics sets its own first-party cookies to distinguish unique visitors and sessions, helping us understand aggregate patterns like which categories or regional pages get the most traffic, how visitors typically navigate the site, and which devices and browsers our audience uses. This data is processed by Google in accordance with its own privacy practices, and is used by us only in aggregate, anonymized form — we don't use Google Analytics to identify or track individual visitors personally.
To reduce spam and duplicate submissions through our "Submit Group" form, we store a timestamp in your browser's localStorage after a submission, which we check before allowing another submission from the same browser within a short cooldown window. This data is stored entirely on your own device, is never transmitted to our servers, and is automatically cleared if you clear your browser's site data.
We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not sell browsing data to advertisers. Groupverse does not run display advertising or participate in ad-targeting networks that would require the kind of cross-site tracking cookies common on many other websites, which keeps our cookie footprint intentionally small compared to typical ad-supported sites.
Neither the analytics cookies nor the spam-prevention localStorage entry described above are strictly required for you to browse listings, use filters, or follow a group's invite link — these core functions work regardless of your cookie settings. Google Analytics and the spam-prevention mechanism exist to help us understand and maintain the site, not to gate access to it, which is why disabling them doesn't meaningfully affect your ability to use Groupverse as intended.
You can disable cookies in your browser settings at any time. Doing so may not affect core site functionality, since we don't rely on cookies for browsing or joining groups. Most browsers let you manage cookie settings under a Privacy or Security section: in Chrome, this is under Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies; in Firefox, under Settings → Privacy & Security; in Safari, under Preferences → Privacy; and in Edge, under Settings → Cookies and Site Permissions. You can also clear localStorage data for a specific site through your browser's developer tools or site-data settings, which will reset the spam-prevention cooldown described above.
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" setting that sends a signal to websites requesting that they not track your browsing activity. There is currently no unified industry standard for how websites should respond to this signal, and Groupverse does not currently alter its behavior based on Do Not Track requests, though we encourage privacy-conscious visitors to use the browser-level cookie and storage controls described above for more direct control.
We may update this cookie policy from time to time to reflect changes in the technologies we use or to clarify existing language. The effective date at the top of this page indicates when it was last updated, and continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
